Join the City of Canal Winchester, in partnership with Madison Township, Franklin County Public Health, and the Ohio EPA, for a scrap tire collection event. Help prevent mosquito populations this summer by disposing of scrap tires now! Scrap tires are a public health risk because they easily hold standing water, which is breeding and nesting grounds for mosquitos. They're also difficult to properly dispose of and are frequently improperly tossed out. Passenger vehicle sized or smaller tires only; large tractor or truck tires not accepted. Tires still securely on the rim do not hold water for mosquitoes to breed in, so tires on rims will not be accepted. Limit of 10 tires per household. Free packages of larvicide tablets will also be available for residents. These tablets can be used to treat rain barrels, decorative ponds, or other containers of water that cannot be easily dumped or drained and replaced. Treated water is safe for plants and pets.
