Come check out Canal Winchester’s finest local artists and see them in action at Square Canvas's open paint! Ask them questions, watch them work, and buy their art! Here is a statement from our September Artist, Vera Collier:
I am primarily an acrylic artist although I enjoy doing colored pencil, water color and mixed media. My latest obsession is creating junk journals. I enjoyed art class in high school and dabbled in crafts as an adult. My love of painting began in 1988 when a friend and I took some decorative painting classes. Decorative painting, or Tole painting as it used to be called is done by following a pattern that is traced onto the surface and then painted following written instructions. I eventually starting creating my own designs and have had quite a few of my designs published in nationally known decorative painting and crafting publications such as Quick and Easy Painting, Crafts magazine, Paintworks, Painting World and Painting Magazine. One of the things I love about decorative painting is that it can be quite dimensional and not limited to canvases. I have painted designs on desks, end tables, stools, canoe paddles, cabinets and small items such as Halloween and Christmas ornaments. I’m currently a member of the Canal Winchester Art Guild and also the Heart Of Ohio Tole (HOOT) group in Westerville. I look forward to displaying my work at Square Canvas on September 20 and demonstrating how I paint Christmas ornaments.
